Help send Ghana blogger to the climate change talks!

Organized by Georgia Popplewell

Thank you again!
Hi Everyone -

I'm delighted to be able to write you this evening to announce that we met our fundraising goal this afternoon! Thanks to the 44 of you, Mac-Jordan will be able to cover his airfare to Copenhagen on December 10.

We raised US$1,250 altogether, and after subtracting the various transfer fees, I was able to send Mac-Jordan a total of US$1,152.69.

A special thank you to David Ajao in Accra for letting me send the second portion of money via his PayPal account and conveying the funds directly to Mac-Jordan, which saved us from having to hand over another set of transfer fees to Western Union.

I've told Mac-J we'll all be keeping an eye on his blog and his Twitter account in anticipation of the dispatches from COP-15. Thank you all again for your generosity!

Best,
Georgia

We've done it!
Thanks to the generosity of all our donors, we've managed to raise enough to get Ghana blogger Mac-Jordan to Copenhagen for the climate change talks, plus a bit more!

Thank you! I'm sending the funds off to Mac-J now. Will send a complete update later.

Best,
Georgia
Just $84 to go—let's do it today!
$84 more and Mac-Jordan will be able to cover the full cost of his ticket to Copenhagen. He's booked to leave on December 10, so how about we try and get this sewn up today?

Thank you in advance for donating. Your help is very much appreciated!

Georgia
Only $169 to go...
A donor in Ghana kindly agreed to let us use his PayPal account to send funds to Mac-Jordan, which will save on Western Union fees. So I've just sent through another US$198.75.

We still need $169 to meet our target, however. Anything you can donate today to help Mac-Jordan get to Copenhagen would be very much appreciated!

Best,
Georgia

Fundraising update
I just e-mailed the note below to the 32 people who've donated so far.

Hi Everyone -

Just a note to say thank you once again for helping us raise funds to enable Ghanaian blogger Mac-Jordan Degadjor to travel to Copenhagen to cover the climate change talks.

As you know if you've been reading the updates on the original ChipIn page, Mac-Jordan was accredited as a blogger to cover the meeting, and will receive a stipend for doing so. He won't receive the stipend, however, until he arrives in Copenhagen, nor is it sufficient, in any event, to cover the US$1600 airfare from Accra, Ghana to Copenhagen. Hence this fundraising campaign, which will help Mac-J pay for the portion of his ticket his personal funds won't cover.

To date we've raised US$1003, which is just $197 short of our target. Today I sent US$745.80 to Ghana via Western Union, which is as much as the system here in Trinidad permits me to send in a day. This allowed Mac-Jordan to secure his flight reservation at the travel agent's. Tomorrow I'll send the balance, plus whatever we manage to raise by tomorrow morning, which I'm hoping will be the full amount of our target (minus fees). And on December 10, if everything goes as planned, Mac-Jordan will board his flight to Copenhagen.

Here's what the figures look like:

Raised to date $1003.00
PayPal fees ($42.40)
Sent to Ghana on Dec 7, 2009 ($745.80)
Western Union send fee ($42.00)
Balance $172.80

Thank you again for your generosity! It's very much appreciated.

And if you happen to know others who would like to donate, please point them to the new ChipIn page at http://bit.ly/81f2Ye.

Only $247 to go!
Today I sent the first portion of the funds we collected to Mac-Jordan in Accra, so he was able to reserve his plane ticket. To cover the cost entirely, however, we need just $247 more. Anything you can chip in would be greatly appreciated!

Georgia
Why a new campaign?
I meant for the original ChipIn campaign to end at midnight tonight, but it seems the system ended it at 8:22am today. So here's a new one to raise the additional $297 we need. That, plus the $883 we've raised since Friday will help us meet our target and get Ghana blogger Mac-Jordan to Copehagen for the climate change talks.

Please visit the previous campaign at http://georgiap.chipin.com/help-send-a-ghana-blogger-to-the-climate-change-talks

Thanks,
Georgia
